We Have Not Come Here to Die
SADAC, cosponsored by SADAN, CERAS, Rang Collective, & QPIRGs Concordia + McGill. On January 17, 2016, Rohith Vemula, a Dalit PhD scholar and activist at University of Hyderabad in India was driven to suicide after years of persecution by the university administration and Hindu supremacists. The event and Rohithâs suicide note galvanized anti-caste student politics and gave rise to massive protests across the country. Dheepa Dhanraj's film documents the historic raging movement that has united numerous marginalized groups, activists, and mothers. With the continuous rise of Hindu nationalists in North America, this film serves as an urgent and poignant reminder of the force of solidarity and student activism in the fight against race and caste.
